Privacy Policy Update

Reforms to the information we collect and retain under Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Amendment Act 2024 (Cth) (AML/CTF) are due to take effect in 2026. The AML/CTF reforms will require us to review and update our Privacy Policy to ensure our compliance not only with the AML/CTF but also the Privacy Act 1998 (Cth).

We anticipate our Privacy Policy will be revised and updated and published on our website in early 2026.

1. WHO WE ARE
MA Legal Group (MALG) is a law firm based in Fremantle, Western Australia. MALG and its associated / related parties (collectively ‘MALG’, ‘we’, ‘us’, ‘our’) respect the privacy of our clients and staff members. We understand the importance of your Personal Information and our obligation to protect it. We follow all the relevant laws and principles in handling and protecting your Personal Information.

4.1 We collect your Personal Information with your express consent, and you authorise us to use or disclose your Personal Information in accordance with this Privacy Policy or as required by the law.
4.2 We collect your Personal Information with your express consent when you:

(b) attend a meeting with us;
(c) interact with us online;
(d) participate in an event organised by us;
(e) apply for a position with us as an employee; contractor, volunteer; or
(f) contact us through an agency with your express consent.
5. HOW DO WE USE YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
Primary Purpose
5.1 We collect your Personal Information to use it to provide you legal advice or legal services.
5.2 We use your Personal Information to perform our contractual obligations in providing you the legal services.
Secondary Purpose
5.3 We use your Personal Information to perform our legal obligations under the relevant laws. We use your Personal Information for our internal administrative purposes.
5.4 We use your Personal Information to recover any money owed to us.
6. DISCLOSING YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may disclose your Personal Information under our Privacy Policy in accordance with our contractual obligations to the following third parties:

(b) legal entities or solicitors involved in your matter;

(d) your authorised professionals (examples - accountants, financial planners etc);

(f) Government Agencies, when required by law.
7. HOW DO WE SAVE AND PROTECT YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION
7.1 We adopt current industry standards to ensure the safety and security of your personal information whether stored electronically or as hard copies.
7.2 To protect your Personal Information stored electronically, we use the services of IT Professionals or firms who uses latest and efficient fire walls, anti-virus software to restrict any unauthorised access to our database.
7.3 To protect your physically stored Personal Information, we have current safety measures in place as per Australian Standards. We also have restricted and authorised access to our office premises and our staff are aware of keeping your Personal Information protected.
8. KEEPING / DESTROYING PERSONAL INFORMATION
8.1 We will keep your Personal Information for the duration of our instructions or as required by law.
8.2 Once the purpose has been met and we do not further require your Personal Information, we may delete or destroy your Personal Information.
8.3 If we are holding your original documents, we strongly encourage you to collect the original documents from our office upon verification of your identity.
9. YOUR RIGHTS TO ACCESS OR UPDATE PERSONAL INFORMATION
9.1 You are entitled to access your Personal Information saved with us at a time agreed by both parties.
9.2 You must contact us to update your Personal Information if:
(a) the Personal Information provided has been changed;
(b) the Personal Information provided was incorrect or inaccurate; or
(c) we require your Personal Information for the purpose of providing legal services to you.
